Who it is for

The policy is written for temporary exhibitions of a cultural nature: a museum or foundation show, an exhibition organised by a cultural institution or a curator, or a private collection opened to the public for a period.

It does not cover trade fairs, auctions or exhibitions intended for the sale of works of art. Galleries and dealers selling work need a different kind of cover.

What nail to nail means

Clavo a clavo — nail to nail — is the term used in the art world for cover that follows the works from the moment they are taken down at the lender’s premises, through packing, transport, installation and the exhibition itself, until they are back on the lender’s wall. The exact scope is set out in the policy wording, which we explain to you in writing before you commit.

What we need to prepare the proposal

An exhibition proposal is built on the list of works. For each loan we ask for the lender, a description and the value agreed with the lender; then the venue or venues, the dates including installation and dismantling, how the works travel and who handles them, and the security at the venue.

Lenders often set their own insurance conditions in the loan agreement. Send us the agreements early so the policy matches what each lender requires.
