Deciding to live in Portugal or Spain is rarely only about the weather. It is about moving a home, a family, a business, sometimes a collection built over decades — into a legal and insurance system written in another language.
Adler & Rochefort is an English-speaking insurance agency. We read the policy before we recommend it, and we tell you plainly where the cover stops.
Adler & Rochefort holds insurance intermediary authorisation in Portugal, granted by the Autoridade de Supervisão de Seguros e Fundos de Pensões (ASF). That authorisation is passported into Spain under Freedom of Services — Livre Prestação de Serviços, or LPS.
In practice this means one adviser can arrange and service cover on both sides of the border. If you own a house in the Algarve and an apartment in Andalusia, or you are moving from one country to the other, the file does not have to be handed over to a stranger halfway through.
Among brokers this is uncommon. Most are authorised in a single country, and that is the honest reason we mention it.
We are members of afpop, NCA Portugal and the British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.
Between them, these three organisations represent the British, Dutch and wider international communities living in Portugal — the people we spend our working days with.
A life moved abroad is not only a house and a health card. These are the lines we advise on, and the unusual ones matter as much as the everyday ones.

Owners and tenants, main residences, second homes and properties that sit empty for months. Home insurance
Paintings, sculpture and collections, on agreed values rather than a contents sub-limit. Insuring art

Jewellery, watches and valuables, scheduled individually and covered away from home. Jewellery & watches
For consultants, freelancers and professionals who keep working from Portugal. Professional indemnity
Everyday cars, imported vehicles, classics and collections. Motor insurance
The cover an Alojamento Local registration actually requires, which a residential policy does not provide. AL insurance
Building cover and the administrator's obligations, explained to owners who are not in the country. Condominium insurance
Cover across a defined region rather than one national provider network. International health insurance
We hold distribution agreements with Allianz, Zurich, Médis, Hiscox, MGEN, Asisa and Allianz Partners.
What independence means in practice is narrower and more useful than it sounds. It means the recommendation is not tied to a single brand, and not tied to a bank that sold you a mortgage and attached a policy to it. If two insurers would treat your risk differently — an empty house in winter, a pre-existing condition, a boat that is sometimes chartered — we can say which one, and why.
It also means we can be wrong out loud. Where none of these insurers will write the risk properly, we say so rather than selling you the nearest approximation.

This page is about who we are. For what actually happens after you get in touch — and why a broker is a different kind of help to buying direct from an insurer — see the two pages below.
The steps from your first message to an ongoing policy, and what we do and do not promise along the way. How Adler & Rochefort works
An honest comparison of the broker route and buying direct from an insurer — neither is automatically the right answer. Why use an insurance broker?
What we can and cannot do if you already hold a policy with us and something happens. Insurance claims support
You do not need to have decided anything. Most of the people we work with begin by writing a paragraph about where they live, what they own and what they are unsure about.
Write to us and we will reply in writing, in English, with what we would look at first. Everything stays in writing, so you have a record of what was said.
